J-POWER USA agreed to sell its 49% stake in one of its combined cycle plants that began operations earlier in 2022.

The 1200 MW Jackson Generation station, located in Elwood, Illinois, was designed and constructed by Kiewit. J-Power USA says it’s one of the most efficient and lowest-emitting natural gas-fueled plants in North America.

Jackson’s combustion turbine, steam turbine, generator and heat recovery steam generator were provided by Mitsubishi Power, which noted the two M501JAC turbines supplied were the first in commercial operation to be manufactured in North America.

Gulf Energy Development Public Co., a Thai energy and infrastructure company will now own nearly half of the plant.

The transaction is expected to close in December 2022 subject to approval from the Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) and completion of review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
